San Diego At Its Finest! Trails, Caves, Cafés, Camping, and More!

line break

You deserve some fun in the sun, especially after a long winter, so pack up the RV and head to the bright and beautiful land of San Diego! You’ll never run out of things to do here, so start planning and set aside a decent chunk of time so you can see everything you’d like to see. We recently had members of our social media team travel to San Diego, so here are some of their top recommendations of things to do while visiting. From trails, caves, cafés, camping, and more, this is San Diego at its finest!

La Jolla

Parks and Beaches

When exploring San Diego, a visit to La Jolla is a must! This portion of San Diego features some of the most beautiful and photogenic landscapes in the entire city (and maybe even the country). Ellen Browning Scripps Park is so gorgeous, in fact, that it was named the most photographed spot in San Diego, according to AAA Magazine, and by looking at that stunning beach, sprawling green grass, and palm trees, we can see why!

If you’re in for a swim, or want to go snorkeling or diving, La Jolla Cove is the perfect spot. Or if you’re looking for a more secluded and quiet walk along the beach, Black’s Beach is gorgeous and tranquil. Just be warned: The north portion of Black’s Beach is clothing optional, so you more conservative explorers or those with children beware! La Jolla is also home to the infamous children’s pool, which is surrounded in controversy thanks to the seals that have taken over the beach. This may be a spot to avoid, and may even be closed if you visit during pupping season.

Caves

If you’d like to see San Diego’s most beautiful caves too, La Jolla is the place! There are several gorgeous caves along the coastline, unfortunately all but one of these are only accessible by boat travel. Sunny Jim Sea Cave is the only cave accessible by land, and you must explore it! Enter through the Cave Store and descend into the lovely caves where you’ll be dazzled by beautifully colored rocks, which get their colors from mineral deposits. Make your way out to the shoreline, where you can hike to the picnic area, observe some seals and other marine wildlife, and enjoy all the beauty around you! If you want to see more, book a kayak tour and you’ll be able to see more of the caves and other sights of San Diego!

Torrey Pines State Park Natural Reserve

Get away from the hustle and bustle and enjoy the nature of San Diego with a visit to Torrey Pines State Park Natural Reserve! The restrictions of what you can do and what you can have in this park is pretty restrictive, but the views make it worth it. After you check out the visitor center and museum to learn more about the reserve, hit the incredible hiking trails, then relax on the beach to cool off. If anything, make sure to head out to Broken Hill to watch the sunset. When the glow of the sinking sun hits the chiseled sand cliffs, you’ll be left absolutely breathless!

Coronado Island

Don’t miss out on a visit to Coronado Island! Alright, so it’s actually a peninsula, but you can always take the ferry across San Diego Bay to get more of an island effect, and what you’ll find here is sure to please. As you exit the ferry, stay a while and enjoy some shopping and food at the Ferry Landing and Tidelands Park, with over 30 shops, restaurants, and galleries. Take a walking tour and discover beautiful downtown, then check out the stunning Hotel del Coronado, which features incredible Victorian-style design and dates back to 1888. If you’re lucky, you may even get to witness a dog surfing competition!

Camping—Silver Strand State Beach

Not only is Silver Strand State Beach an incredibly lovely spot to visit, you can camp here and be close to all the beauty of Coronado Island! RVs up to 40 feet are welcome, with electric service available, restrooms, a snack bar, and more. You may even be able to snag a gorgeous oceanside site if you make your reservations well in advance! If you’re feeling adventurous, sign up for some surfing lessons, and be sure to visit the Crown Cove Aquatic Center.
