Whenever you travel to the campground, you will need to plan for your overall budget. These RV tips can help you to save on fuel expenses by improving your RV’s fuel efficiency. Learn more below.
Accelerate Slowly
One of the best ways you can save on fuel efficiency when towing a vehicle is by accelerating slowly. Instead of trying to take off from a stop by hitting the gas, just allow yourself to roll to a start and increase your pressure on the gas pedal slowly. This process is easier on your engine and saves you fuel.
Brake Ahead of Time
The next thing that can help you save money on your fuel costs is to stop well ahead of time. Especially if you are RVing with a towable RV, like a travel trailer or fifth wheel, braking well ahead of time will help you reduce the fuel it takes to start again. Additionally, breaking slowly helps preserve your RVs braking system for longer.
Plan Your Stops
Try to plan out your stops ahead of time so that you avoid high-traffic areas and times. By researching your route and planning your stops this can help you too not only save money in fuel but also budget your travel time better.
3/3/3 Rule
In general, it’s a good idea to follow the 3/3/3 rule when traveling with an RV. This rule can help you save on fuel efficiency and ensures safe travel so that you never drive fatigued. The 3/3/3 rule is just to try to drive for no longer than 300 miles in a day and arrive at the campsite before 3 PM. This gives you plenty of time to set up during the day. Lastly, tackle the drive in three-hour sessions. If you are making stops every three hours, you’re more likely to be more aware on the road, and I can help you to be more conscious of your starting and stopping habits.
Pack Light
Lastly, you can save money on your fuel costs by packing your RV light and only taking the essentials. This is easier said than done, but I can’t help you save money.
